Brandon
Guilmette wins event # 4!
Bruno
Rodrigues is 2007 HB Pro-Am Surf Series Pro Champion!
Huntington Beach, CA, (Sept.2 2007) The
HB Pro-Am Surf Series presented by HB Dodge, Toyota of
HB and HB Ford event # 4 was held at the H.B. Pier with
some good shaped 2-3 waves all weekend. "We’ve
been so lucky to have good weather and surf for all four
events this season.” says owner and event operator
Jeff Deffenbaugh. The 2007 title was on the line between
Bruno and Adam Virs who both would be battling it out
to become the overall champion.
The Surf Series is utilizing computer
scoring and running only 4 man heats for all the divisions.
“I wanted to give everyone the best opportunity
to advance their skills. Also added is a $40.00 cash prize
for per each heat win for the competitors in the Pro division.
This provides great incentive to win your heat.”
Saturday was the amateur divisions competing
with the Maters, Boys, women and Longboard Finals being
completed that afternoon with some 8’s and 9’s
in the score line for the Masters and Longboard heats.
Sunday was the Pro division, Men and
Juniors Finals as well. Once the semis where complete,
Bruno did not advance into the final leaving the door
open for Virs to take the title. The Pro Final was set
with Macy Mullen, Jesse Merle Jones both from Hawaii,
Adam Virs from Ventura and local Brandon Guilmette. With
$1500 for first and the overall $2000 title prize up for
grabs, you knew the action was going to be good. Virs
was leading the final at the half way point. But when
some good set waves came in, Brandon got the best of it,
scoring a 9 point ride! That left everyone needing one
good score to take the win. Adam got two more solid waves,
scoring in the 6‘s but was not enough to take the
lead. Once the 30 minute final was over, it was Guilmette
taking the win! With Virs taking second it looked good
for him to take the overall win by adding to his point’s
total. After the computer updated the points and recalculated
the best three of four results for each competitor, it
was Bruno holding off Virs by only 20 points!!! Wow, close
as it gets!
Pro results:
1. Brandon Guilmette $1500
2. Adam Virs $600
3. Macy Mullen $400
4. Jesse Merle Jones $300
